OMG and the UML Technology Institute Announce
OMG Certified Real-time Embedded Specialist Program
OMG Chairman and CEO Richard Soley and UTI President Tatsuhiko Tsubuki
sign agreement at OMG's Technical Meeting
Needham, Mass. and Tokyo, Japan - June 23, 2005 - The
Object Management Group™ (OMG™) and the UML Technology Institute (UTI)
announced today a joint project to create the OMG Certified Real-time
Embedded Specialist (OCRES) program. The program will provide formal
certification of expertise in standards governing real-time and embedded
systems.
Targeted at architects, developers and programmers worldwide, the OCRES
program will be the benchmark that measures and certifies knowledge of the
real-time and embedded industry standards important to employers hiring in
this field, to individuals seeking to demonstrate their knowledge, and to
everyone wishing to measure their knowledge. As multiple networked,
specialized computers are designed and built into ever-smaller and more
capable products, knowledge of these standards becomes increasingly more
critical to software design and implementation.
OMG will develop the exams in a joint effort with UTI, building on the
real-time and embedded expertise of OMG's membership and especially the
work of OMG's Real-Time, Embedded and Specialized Systems Task Force. The
program will be available beginning in mid 2006, with UTI administering
the program in Japan, China and other parts of Asia and OMG administering
it in the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world. OMG will assemble a team
of real-time and embedded systems experts and experienced examination
professionals to develop the exam materials. Two examinations will test
knowledge and skills at progressively advanced levels.
"The OCRES Certification Program fills a vital need for measuring
the skills that are becoming increasingly crucial as networked systems
become smaller and less expensive, providing intelligence in mobile
telephones, control systems, aircraft, land vehicles, satellite systems
and embedded sensor systems. This increases the need for architects and
developers knowledgeable in the standards that govern these systems,"
said Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of OMG. "OMG is delighted to
continue our successful worldwide partnership with UTI to deliver a
program that will benefit the industry throughout the world."
"UTI is proud to be working at the leading edge of the critically
important fields of real-time and embedded systems, and our work on the
OCRES certification program with OMG marks a major new advance in the
growth of this exciting field. The support of our many sponsor companies
has been important in the launch of this new program, and we expect a
large number of participants throughout the world. The need for
international standards of software quality for manufacturing and other
embedded systems is central to product quality here in Japan, in the
Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world," said Tatsuhiko Tsubuki,
President of UML Technology Institute Co., Ltd.

About the UML Technology Institute
The UML Technology Institute Co., LTD. was founded to promote the use of
open, standards-based modeling technologies through the development of
international certification programs that provide formal recognition of
modeling expertise. With headquarters in Tokyo, UML Technology Institute
was established in November 2002 by PA Co., Ltd. and Object Technology
Institute, the OMG Representative in Japan.
About The OMG
With well-established standards covering software from design and
development, through deployment and maintenance, and extending to
evolution to future platforms, the Object Management Group (OMG) supports
a full-lifecycle approach to enterprise integration which maximizes ROI,
the key to successful IT. OMG's Modeling standards, the basis for the
MDA®, include the Unified Modeling Language™ (UML®) and Common
Warehouse Metamodel (CWM™). CORBA®, the Common Object Request Broker
Architecture, is OMG's standard open platform with hundreds of millions of
deployments running today. Headquartered in Needham, MA, USA, the Object
Management Group is an international, open membership, not-for-profit
computer industry specifications consortium. More information about OMG
